Series 3

• Setup for my basic photo still-life
• Still-life photographed under normal overhead fluorescents
• Lit by strong incandescent from the side
• Lit by small fluorescent from the front
• Small fluorescent, farther away (I like the definition of the salt shaker)
• Small fluorescent, muted, from the right
• Small fluorescent, backlit, light facing the wall
• Small fluorescent, backlit, light facing the objects (this one is sweet)
• Small fluorescent, held directly overhead (this one best captures the texture of the cloth)

Series 2

• Manipulating news clippings with hidden strings while scanning them
• A fan blowing crumples of paper across the scanner while scanning
• Flapping a news clipping wildly while scanning
• Random hand gestures while scanning
• Going friggin' crazy while scanning, I don't even remember what I did here
• Waving a plastic bag full of news clippings above the scanner
• Spinning a quarter across the scanner bed while scanning; the spinning quarter is at bottom right
• Pulling newsprint type across the scanner bed while scanning
• Same as above, but also rotating it
• Same idea as above, but even cooler
• Same idea as above, but with a constant background sheet. I really like the 'e' in 'louder.'
• Fun with somebody's face and a scanner
• More fun with somebody's face and a scanner
• A random cut-out type experiment; my favorite part is the 'd' (or is it a 'p') near the top that somehow managed to remain undistorted the whole time
• The funny part about this one is that the word is actually 'big' — I don't really know how it came out like this
• OK now we're just getting silly

Series 1

• Blending a photo with a close-up scanned image
• Fun with moiré patterns and masks
• Moiré patterns and masks again, only more so
• Cropped & zoomed section of previous
• Same as above, but tweaked with unsharp & hue/sat

What’s this?

Just some design experiments, mostly using photography, a scanner, etc., updated every so often.

Why “arbitrarily large”?

I dunno, my calculus teacher always used the phrase instead of “infinity” when describing y-values that approached an asymptote on a Cartesian coordinate graph. I thought it was amusing. And the domain was available.
